Another month has come around so quickly and it’s great to be able to find out about what has been happening in our community through our monthly news letter. The idea of Christiancommunity has really come to the fore in terms of the recent readings of the lectionary.They have provided the opportunity for me to preach on how the world, in general, is God’scommunity in which God’s reign as Creator is manifest in all of creation, and how the Church,in particular, is God’s community in which all are reconciled to God through Christ. In ourcommunity of faith, God not only dwells among us, but also works in and through us to accomplish God’s mission of reconciliation. It is a community in which our experiences together should remind us all of what God has done for each and every one of us. It is fundamentally a community of grace. Sharing this grace is not something that is to be confined purely amongst ourselves as a means of primarily consolidating and maintaining our sense of unity or identity as a congregation. Rather, as the stories of the tower of Babel (Gen. 11) and Pentecost (Act 2) remind us, we can share God’s grace when we are both a gathered and scattered people of God. Wherever we are and whoever we meet (outside of our church walls) is the opportunity provided to participate in God’s mission of extending grace to others. Read the rest of this entry »
